You might be wondering why a Bioengineering professor is doing this work? Alisha has been doing work to promote discussions of gender and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in higher education for over a decade. She has also done support for and education about survivors of partner abuse in the LGBTQ community for almost 10 years. She is interested in using human-centered design approaches for doing everything from improving assistive devices for mobility to creating educational materials about gender. As a queer parent of 3 kids 5 and under, she thinks a LOT about gender and the messages they receive and internalize. This work brings together these passions and interests.
